Shucked to order
Every oyster is opened the moment you order it, never pre-shucked and never sitting on ice for hours. That is the whole reason a raw bar exists, and we treat it that way.
Our Story
For more than two decades, our exposed-brick room on Central Ave has been St. Pete's go-to raw bar. Fresh oysters, Gulf seafood, and a neighborhood that keeps coming back.
The Story
The Oyster Bar opened on Central Ave in 1999, back when the Grand Central District was still finding its footing. We set up in an exposed-brick room and put one idea at the center of everything: get the oysters in fresh and shuck every single one to order. More than two decades later, that has not changed. Walk in on any open evening and you will hear the shucking knife working behind the bar, see ice glistening on the half shell, and find a room full of regulars who treat this place like an extension of their living room.
We sit in the heart of the Grand Central District, one of the most walkable, character-filled stretches in St. Petersburg. Our kitchen knows Gulf seafood cold, from blackened grouper to fried oysters and shareable plates that keep people lingering long past happy hour. Behind the bar there is a serious craft cocktail list, house old fashioneds, and martinis poured with care. The room stays loud, friendly, and easy. We have never been precious about it. This is a neighborhood-first raw bar, and that is exactly the point.
Today The Oyster Bar holds a 4.3 star rating across 1,871 Google reviews, which for a corner spot on Central Ave says everything we hoped it would. Pull up a stool for a dozen raw on the half shell, the rotating Great 8 Flight, or oysters during our daily happy hour. Whether it is your first visit or your two-hundredth, there is a seat here for you. Have a look at the full menu or check the happy hour specials before you come in.
In the Kitchen
Freshness is not a marketing line here, it is the daily routine. Oysters come in fresh and get shucked to order, never sitting around waiting. Our kitchen builds the rest of the menu around that same standard, working the Gulf catch into blackened grouper, crispy calamari, mussels, scallops, and the baked oysters our regulars order on repeat.
It is honest, appetite-driven food cooked by people who genuinely care how it lands on your plate. Come hungry, share a few things, and let the bar pour you something good while you settle in. See where it all goes on the full menu.
What We Stand For
Every oyster is opened the moment you order it, never pre-shucked and never sitting on ice for hours. That is the whole reason a raw bar exists, and we treat it that way.
From blackened grouper to fried oysters, mussels, and scallops, our kitchen works the Gulf catch into food that tastes like the coast it came from.
Walk-ins are always welcome, the patio is dog friendly, and the room stays loud and easy. We are a Grand Central regular's spot, not a special-occasion-only one.
